NEWCASTLE police resources were stretched when four cars, all believed to have been stolen, led officers on chases through city and suburban streets over a 40-minute period that ended early yesterday.

Police pursued a white Ford Falcon in Newcastle West after seeing it trying to ram-raid Gamer's Auctions.

The car was dumped after hitting a wall adjoining The Store, and the suspects escaped.

At the same time, an unmarked police car tried to pull over a car in Parkway Avenue, Hamilton, but it sped off.

The car, stolen from Hertz at Cessnock, was later found abandoned in Hamilton South with stolen numberplates.

A car led police on a chase through Hamilton South before four youths jumped from it and ran off.

A 16-year-old was later arrested.

At 12.10am yesterday, a car sped through Adamstown streets, losing a tyre on the journey.

The driver jumped from the moving car in Fourth Street and ran off.

The car hit a fence.
